2012: Played in just 11 games before suffering a season-ending back injury… Hit .233 in those 11 games with a slugging percentage of .367… Of his nine starts, seven were as designated hitter and the other two were at first base, where he did not commit an error in 15 chances… Also pitched 1.0 inning, allowing one hit in four batters faced.
2011: Switched from pitcher to infielder after undergoing major back surgery... Named to the Capital One Academic All-American Second Team as well as the Great West All-Conference Second Team... Became the first baseball Academic All-American since 1997... Played in 48 games, starting in 46, nine at first base and 37 as the designated hitter... Hit .374 for the year with a .581 slugging percentage... Was second on the team with four home runs and tied for second with 17 doubles... Added four triples, which was also second on the club... Had a team-high five sacrifice flies and was 1-for-3 in stolen base attempts... Scored 27 runs on 67 hits and had 43 RBI.
2010: Made 10 appearances on the mound for the Bears as a sophomore ... Threw 13.1 innings and struck out 11 batters ... Finished with a 10.80 ERA ... Did not allow a homerun the entire season ... His first appearance as a Bear came in a March 5th game against Creighton.
2009: Redshirted.
Prep: Was a two-time all-conference, all-area, all-region and all-state selection for the Niwot Cougars... Earned four letters in football, three in baseball and one in basketball, earning three honorable mention all-conference selections in football... Hit .349 as a sophomore, .459 as a junior and .430 as a senior... A member of the National Honor Society, he was named to the principal's honor roll all four years... Helped baseball to a fifth-place finish at state as a senior and third-place as a junior, as well as two football league championship titles.
Personal: Is the youngest of two children of Paul and Karen Packard with an older sister Annie... Born July 16, 1990 in Boulder.
