Refreshed and dedicated in the fall of 2018, the Bob Heiny Student Athlete Academic Success Center was generously sponsored by the Bob and Bonnie Phelps CAP Trust. Heiny excelled as a University of Northern Colorado faculty member and administrator for 48 years. A generous donor and avid fan of the Bears, Heiny served with UNC Athletics and the NCAA for 30 years in a number of capacities, including Faculty Athletic Representative and Interim Athletic Director. The Center, located on the second floor of Butler-Hancock, provides student-athletes maximum opportunity for academic achievement through extensive and customized support services. The impact of Heiny’s unwavering passion for academic excellence can still be felt across campus and will never be forgotten in Athletics, thanks to the Bob and Bonnie Phelps Family CAP Trust.

Mission Statement
The mission of the Student-Athlete Academic Success Center is to provide student-athletes, through an enriching environment, the maximum opportunity for academic achievement. The Student-Athlete Academic Success Center will render quality academic support and personal development for student-athletes. To provide the best possible collegiate experience, the staff will work in partnership with coaches, faculty and administrators to empower student-athletes.
Goals
- Provide quality academic support to meet the diverse academic needs of the student athletes.
- Provide a supportive environment encouraging critical thought and intellectual freedom.
- Engage in proactive programming, open and honest communication, and academic integrity.
- Create an inclusive environment and respect intellectual differences.
- Provide positive academic support while challenging the students to exceed their progress towards degree requirements.
