Bears post program’s highest team finish at the event, placing 16th in the Gold Division
LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Northern Colorado women's cross country delivered a historic performance Saturday at the Louisville Classic, placing 16th overall in the Gold Division, the program's highest finish ever at the event. Senior Regina Mpigachai led the way in record-breaking fashion, finishing fifth overall and fourth among collegiate runners with a new school record time of 16:39.6.
Freshman Sabina Stroia continued her strong debut season, placing 85th in 18:11.5, while junior Brooke Elfert followed in 115th at 18:31.6. Seniors Ania Magdesian (123rd, 18:38.1) and Claire Nowels (156th, 18:54.3) completed UNC's top five, with senior Jessica Wilson close behind in 157th (18:55.7). Competing in a field of more than 300 runners and 31 teams, the Bears showed depth and composure against some of the nation's top programs.
"We are incredibly proud of how our women competed today," said Director of Track & Field and Cross Country Wayne Angel. "With 31 teams and over 300 athletes on the line, the competition was fierce, but the Bears held their own. We finished a respectable 16th out of 31 teams in the Gold Division.
Regina had a phenomenal race, placing 5th overall and 4th among college contenders and breaking the previous school record of 16:41.3 set in 2022 with a new school record of 16:39.6.
We're progressing well as a team and if we can tighten our pack a bit more, I believe everything else will take care of itself. We just need to trust the process."
