GREELEY, Colo. – Northern Colorado distance standout Regina Mpigachai has been selected to compete for Tanzania at the World Cross Country Championships, set for January 10 in Tallahassee, Florida, marking another historic milestone for the Bears' track and field and cross country program.
Mpigachai becomes just the second student-athlete in program history to earn selection to a World Championships event, joining former teammate Jerome Campbell, who previously represented his country at the World Indoor Championships.
Over the course of her career at Northern Colorado, Mpigachai established herself as one of the most accomplished distance runners in program history. Her résumé includes an NCAA Cross Country Championships appearance, All-Region honors, and program records across cross country and track.
"This selection is a testament to Regina's commitment, consistency, and belief in the process," said Director of Track & Field and Cross Country Wayne Angel. "Regina came to Northern Colorado, believed in the process, and stayed true to her Bear family. Over the course of her career, she made history; NCAA Cross Country finalist, All-Region, record-setting All-Big Sky Team, and now a representative of Tanzania on the world's greatest stage. We are all immensely proud of her. This is what loyalty looks like. This is what development looks like. And this is what happens when trust meets talent. Northern Colorado didn't just help shape an athlete, we watched one rise to the pinnacle of her sport."
Mpigachai's selection continues Northern Colorado's growing presence on the international stage and reflects the program's emphasis on long-term development and global impact. She will compete against the world's best distance runners when the championships arrive in Tallahassee this January.
