FARMINGTON, Utah – The Big Sky Conference office announced Tuesday that Northern Colorado senior Regina Mpigachai has been named the Big Sky Women's Cross Country Athlete of the Week, marking her second weekly conference honor of the 2025 season.
Mpigachai earned the recognition following another standout performance at the Louisville Classic, where she broke her own school record and placed fifth overall and fourth among collegiate runners in the women's Gold Division. Her time of 16:39.6 topped the previous program mark of 16:41.3 set in 2022, leading the Bears to a program-best 16th-place team finish in a field of 31 teams and more than 300 competitors.
"Regina continues to raise the bar for Northern Colorado," said Director of Track & Field and Cross Country Wayne Angel. "Placing fourth in such a deep field and earning the Big Sky Athlete of the Week honors for a second time shows just how special she is. Her hard work is paying off, and she is proudly representing our university and community at the highest level."
This marks the second time in three weeks that Mpigachai has earned the Big Sky's top weekly honor, after also being recognized for her individual victory at the Woody Greeno/Dirksen Invitational in September.
Up next, the UNC men's team will compete at the UCCS XC Open in Colorado Springs on October 10, while both teams will race at the NCAA Pre-National Invite in Columbia, Missouri, on October 18.
