Stienker's Home Run Leads Bears Past Saint Mary's

Northern Colorado split its games on Sunday
STOCKTON, Calif. – Northern Colorado Softball is leaving California on a high note with a 6-2 win over Saint Mary's Sunday afternoon after falling to Pacific 8-7 earlier in the day.
Alison Steinker's three-run home run in the fifth was the deciding factor to help the Bears defeat the Gales. Steinker brought home Kaileigh Holland and Alexsi Barashkoff with her long ball. Holland singled and Baraskoff walked to reach base.
UNC added on one more run in the fifth when Katie Simonsgaard hit a two-out single up the middle to score Haley Boxwell.
Saint Mary's took the early 1-0 lead with a home run in the second. The Bears responded with back-to-back runs in the third and fourth. Jaycie Gandert came home in the third on Riley Plogger's infield single. Alyssa Wenzel's single in the fourth scored Lauren Strathern.
In the first game of the day, UNC had a big third inning scoring five runs on three hits. Hannah Knox drove in a pair during the inning with a single down the right field line.
The scoring started when Northern Colorado loaded the bases. Paola Villegas walked soring Plogger. Wenzel singled to score another run and then scored on a double steal to put the Bears up 6-2.
Pacific responded with two in the bottom of the third and two more in the fourth. UNC scored one in the fourth on a Plogger solo home run.
The Tigers scored two more in the sixth to take the 8-7 lead and shut down the Bears in the seventh.
What's Ahead
Northern Colorado returns to Big Sky play next weekend when they head to Portland to face Portland State on April 8 and 9. UNC is currently tied with Weber State for first place with a 3-0 record.
