Alison Steinker led Northern Colorado with a 5-for-7 day at the plate as UNC split with PSU
PORTLAND – Northern Colorado Softball returned to Big Sky play on Friday splitting its doubleheader with Portland State. The Bears are now 16-20 on the season and 4-1 in Big Sky play.
Alison Steinker had a big day for the Bears going 5-for-7 at the plate with a home run, two runs scored and two RBIs.
She did most of her damage in the Bears' 6-1 win in game one going 3-for-4 at the plate with two RBIs. Steinker was seeing the ball well right away with a hard-hit ball in the first that bounced off the pitcher into the outfield scoring the first run of the game. She also drove home the last run in the 6-3 win with a solo home run in the seventh.
UNC scored three runs in the first inning of the series as Alyssa Wenzel had a bases clearing triple to score two. Meanwhile, Lauren Strathearn did a good job turning over the lineup with a two-hit game and scoring a run.
Freshman Meghan Golden pitched another complete game, her 11th of the year in the win. She struck out four while allowing three runs on nine hits. She did a great job of making the Vikings strand runners as they left 10 on base.
In game two, UNC was unable to string together hits, with the lone run coming on a Paola Villegas home run in the top of the seventh.
What's Ahead
Northern Colorado and Portland State face off in the rubber match tomorrow at 1 pm MT. The game can be seen on ESPN+.
