Big Sacramento State Mid-Innings Hurts @NCBearsBaseball

A seven run fifth and sixth inning for Sacramento State ends up hurting Northern Colorado baseball
SACRAMENTO, Calif. -- Northern Colorado and Sacramento State baseball finished their three game series on Sunday afternoon with the Hornets winning 9-3.

Senior Jensen Park led the team again on the offensive end going 2-for-4 from the plate driving in all three of UNC's runs while scoring one of his own on a two-run home run.

With Park hitting .500 on the weekend he raised his WAC leading batting average to .429.

The Bears and Hornets played a close first four innings, before Sac State scored seven runs combined on the fifth and sixth inning.

Northern Colorado's first run came across the plate in the third inning. Trailing 1-0 going to the bottom half of the inning,

Bryan Tibbitts (Westminster, Colo.) started the inning off with a single to left center. He was erased on the bath paths as Jake Garcia reached on a fielders choice. Garcia moved over on a Jacob Ek (Columbus, Neb.) bunt single and Reyn Sugai (Honolulu, Hawaii) sac fly.

Park earned his first RBI of the day with a single up the middle to drive in Garcia and tie the game at 1

Sacramento State broke the tie in the top of the fifth by putting up a four spot.

The Bears would cut back into the lead in the bottom half of the inning. With two outs Sugai lined the 0-1 pitch down the left field line for a single. Hawaiian teammate Park would brining him in two pitches later with a two-run home run to left field.

The home run was Park's fifth of the year, and ties teammate Cole Maltese (Superior, Colo.) for the team lead.

The Hornets pulled away in the sixth inning adding on three more runs to make it an 8-3 lead.

Northern Colorado now returns home on Thursday for its last series of the regular season when they face Seattle U. First pitch is scheduled for 3:00 p.m.
