MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. – Northern Colorado baseball dropped a tightly contested postseason match up to South Dakota State, 2-1, on Thursday evening at Siebert Field.

The Bears were locked in a pitcher's duel throughout but were unable to overcome an early deficit, finishing with just two hits in the one-run loss.

GAME SUMMARY: South Dakota State broke through in the third inning on an RBI double from Owen Siegert before adding an unearned run in the fourth to take a 2-0 lead. The Bears answered in the sixth inning when Jaden Stone delivered a single and later advanced to second before Logan Pruski brought home Brandon Sanchez with a sacrifice fly to cut the deficit to 2-1.

OFFENSIVE HIGHLIGHTS: Jaden Stone and Ethan Mooser recorded Northern Colorado's lone hits, while Logan Pruski drove in the team's only run with his sacrifice fly in the sixth inning. Brandon Sanchez accounted for the Bears' run after reaching base and coming around to score.

PITCHING SUMMARY: Jake Storey turned in a strong outing despite taking the loss, going 6.0 innings while allowing two runs, just one earned on five hits with three strikeouts. Lucas Stone provided solid relief, tossing 2.2 scoreless innings while allowing two hits and striking out one. Brady Hudson recorded the final out in the ninth, stranding a bases-loaded threat to keep the Bears within striking distance.

ON DECK: Northern Colorado continues postseason play in an elimination match up against top-seeded Oral Roberts. The Bears aim to extend their season tomorrow, with first pitch time still to be announced.
