Bears Head to West Coast for Matchups Against LMU and LBSU

Northern Colorado looks to bounce back from a tough weekend in Lincoln as it faces the Lions in a three-game series before taking on the Sharks in a midweek matchup
GREELEY, Colo. – Northern Colorado softball (7-15, 0-0 Big Sky) heads to the West Coast for a three-game series against Loyola Marymount, followed by a single game at Long Beach State. The Bears will face LMU on Saturday and Sunday before taking a day off and closing the trip against the Sharks on Tuesday.

All three games at LMU and the matchup at Long Beach State will be streamed on ESPN+. Live stats will also be available, provided by the LMU and LBSU Athletic Communications departments.
A LOOK AT THE BEARS
Northern Colorado enters the weekend at 7-15 after five weeks of a challenging nonconference schedule. Most recently, the Bears competed in the Big Red Spring Fling, hosted by Nebraska, where they faced the Cornhuskers for the third time this season.
Offense proved to be a struggle in Lincoln, as UNC dropped all five games despite totaling 37 hits and scoring 18 runs. Two of the losses came by just one run.
Head Coach Dedeann Pendleton-Helm is in her third season at the helm, compiling a 60-64 record during her tenure.
SCOUTING LOYOLA MARYMOUNT
(Saturday / 1 p.m. & 3:30 p.m. MST [DH] | Sunday / 11 a.m.)
The Lions (8-17) enter the weekend on a five-game losing streak, most recently falling to No. 6 UCLA in five innings, 12-0.
Offensively, LMU is led by Justine Lambert, who boasts a .337 batting average, a .739 OPS, and a .386 slugging percentage. She has recorded 28 hits in 83 at-bats, totaling 32 bases. Izzy Jamgotchian leads the team with 14 RBIs.
In the circle, Jessica Hubbard and Lindsay O'Dell have shared starting duties, combining for an 8-17 record. Each has thrown two complete games, and together, they have struck out 96 batters this season.

The Sharks (12-9) have navigated a competitive nonconference slate, including appearances in the Mary Nutter Collegiate Classic and the Louisville Slugger Invitational.
At the plate, Rebekah Durazo has been a standout, posting a .487 batting average, a 1.279 OPS, and a .717 slugging percentage. In 21 games, she has collected 43 total bases, including nine extra-base hits and 18 RBIs.
On the mound, Shannon Haddard leads the Sharks' pitching staff with a 3.02 ERA through 44.0 innings and 10 starts. She has struck out 41 batters while holding opponents to a .210 batting average.
BIG SKY CONFERENCE PRESEASON POLL
Northern Colorado enters the 2025 season as the preseason favorite in the Big Sky Conference Coaches' Poll. The Bears, who made history last season by sweeping both the regular-season and tournament titles for the first time, received three first-place votes and topped the poll with 23 points.
Head Coach Dedeann Pendleton-Helm's squad aims to defend its title against a competitive field, including Idaho State (21 points, two first-place votes) and Portland State (17 points, one first-place vote), both of whom made deep postseason runs last year.
UNC will also host the 2025 Big Sky Softball Championship at Gloria Rodriguez Field from May 6-9, giving the Bears a home-field advantage as they look to secure back-to-back titles.
The team opened the season on Feb. 6 against Florida State in the Puerto Vallarta College Challenge, setting the tone for another exciting year of UNC softball. Fans can follow the Bears and all Big Sky action on social media using @BigSkyConf and the hashtag #ExperienceElevated.
