RALEIGH, N.C. – Northern Colorado bounced back with an impressive all-around performance, defeating Central Michigan 5-0 at Dail Softball Stadium. NORTHERN COLORADO 5, CENTRAL MICHIGAN 0
Pitching: (W) Isabelle DiNapoli (3-1); (L) B. Compau (0-1)
Northern Colorado's offense set the tone early in the top of the first inning, quickly taking control of the game. Amailee Morales got things started with a solid single down the left field line, putting a runner on with one out. Sabrina Javorsky followed up with an RBI double to drive in Emma Osborne, giving the Bears an early 1-0 lead. Nya Chacon then delivered the biggest hit of the game, launching a grand slam over the right field fence to extend the lead to 5-0.
DiNapoli was in complete control on the mound, tossing a seven-inning shutout while allowing just two hits. The senior struck out two and walked none, efficiently working through the Central Michigan lineup on just 77 pitches.
Chacon finished 1-for-2 with four RBIs and a walk, while Javorsky went 2-for-4, driving in a run and doubling in the first. Katie Walling, Ella Gonzales, Krista Francia, and Morales each added hits to support the Bears' early offensive surge.
Defensively, the Bears remained flawless, committing no errors. The infield was particularly sharp, with Jaycie Gandert recording four putouts and four assists, including a double play in the seventh inning to secure the shutout.
Central Michigan struggled to find any offensive rhythm, with just two hits coming from freshman Tori Briggs. Starting pitcher Brooklyn Compau was tagged with the loss after surrendering five runs on four hits in just one-third of an inning. Relievers Cierra Laska and Madelyn Wallace combined to keep the Bears scoreless over the final 6.2 innings, but the early deficit proved too much for the Chippewas to overcome.
With the win, Northern Colorado improved to 4-10 on the season, while Central Michigan fell to 1-8.
