LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Northern Colorado worked well as a team at the Live in the Lou Classic – hosted by Louisville – Saturday at E.P. "Tom" Sawyer Park.
The men competed first and the top four faced the challenging course and competition together, helping the Bears to a 1:47 spread. Noah Osmond posted an 8k personal record time of 26:31.1, while Isaac Rascon paced UNC for the fourth race this season. He passed 83 runners over the final six kilometers of the race.
"Our 1-4 worked well together and moved up through the entire race," UNC Associate Head Coach Stormie Sickler said. "We feel confident that our top-5 scorers ran faster than the last meet! We can tighten up the pack a bit more but continue to see movement the way we want to!"
Regina Mpigachai showed her dominance again, crossing the line in the sixth fastest time, 42 seconds off the winning pace – set by the top-ranked runner in the nation. She helped the Bears defeat Tennessee Tech – the next race hosts by 64 points, which bodes well when the teams meet Oct. 18 in Cookeville, Tennessee.
"Regina represented UNC very well today on one of the largest-scaled meets of the weekend," Sickler said. "Our second through seventh runners packed up well and started the race strong. We will work on the last 1K of the race and I expect us to capitalize on the final regular season meet."
