LUBBOCK, Texas – Regina Mpigachai and Shantell Hafner paced Northern Colorado women's cross country at the NCAA Mountain Regional – hosted by Texas Tech - Chaparral Ridge Cross Country Course Friday.
Mpigachai, a sophomore from Geita, Tanzania, posted a time of 21:37 on the 6,000-meter course. Hafner followed her teammate across the line in 21:39. The duo led the Bears to a 16th-place finish.
"We hoped to record a top-15 finish in the region on the ladies' side," associate head coach Stormie Sickler said. "We started off strong, but a couple teams closed stronger. Shantell Hafner ran an impressive race, finishing eight seconds off her personal-best."
On the men's side, the Bears sent Jesse Hayward and Isaad Rascon to The Lone Star State.
Hayward posted a time of 31:08 in the final race of his cross-country senior season, the second-fastest time in a 10k race in program history.
"The two men competed very determined, stuck to the game plan and performed well," Sickler said. "Exceptionally proud of them, especially Jesse [Hayward] posting the school's second fastest time."
Rascon crossed the line in a time of 33:01.
"The final result was not what we wanted," Sickler said. "I am incredibly proud of their hard work and dedication to this program over the last couple months."
