Bears Come Up Short in Hard Fought Exhibition Against Air Force
8/6/2022 5:15:00 PM | Women's Soccer
GREELEY, Colo.- Northern Colorado Soccer fell to Air Force, 2-1, following a tied first half in the first exhibition of the season at Jackson Stadium on Saturday.
Both teams found scoring opportunities in the first half despite playing through some preseason nerves. Air Force got on the board first with a goal around the 20-minute mark.
However, the Bears were quick to answer back thanks to freshman Riley Kaali-Nagy, who found the back of the net to tie the game at 1-1, with assists from sophomore Ashley Hillman and transfer Lauren Fuller. Both Fuller and Kaali-Nagy showed up big in their debuts in the Blue and Gold, with Kaali-Nagy scoring UNC's lone goal of the match.
The Falcons wasted no time scoring just 37 seconds into the second half to take a 2-1 lead.
The second half posed a strong defensive effort as the Bears saved an onslaught of eight additional shots from the Falcons. This included a total of four saves between UNC's pair of goalkeepers, Delaney Doremus and Kaya Lindberg, and some great team saves to hold the Falcons to a one-point lead.
Northern Colorado fought hard until the end to close the deficit with Maddie Duren, Riley Kaali-Nagy, and Kalen Nielding all recording shots until the final whistle blew. However, no one was able to find the back of the net and the match ended in Air Force's favor, 2-1.
