UNC Soccer Closes Out Home Stand with Omaha and North Dakota State

GREELEY, Colo.- Northern Colorado Soccer will wrap up their four-game home stand as Omaha and North Dakota State come to town on Thursday and Sunday, respectively.

The team's second consecutive week of home games comes on the heels of more successful showings on the pitch with a 4-0 shutout over North Dakota and a come from behind 1-1 stalemate with Valparaiso. The Bears now look to cash in on this prolonged home field advantage as they face the Mavericks and Bison before spending some time on the road.

Scouting the Mavericks
The Mavericks enter the match with an overall record of 1-1-2 so far this season. They will face the Bears coming off two consecutive ties against Northern Iowa and Missouri, 1-1 and 0-0, respectively. The team's first win of 2022 came earlier in the season against Lindenwood, as did their first loss against Oklahoma State.

Head Coach Tim Walters enters his sixth season at the helm of the team. His squad includes some notable players in Emilie Erland, Mia Reedtz Rehde Olesen, and Cece Behrens. Erland recorded the game winning goal for the Mavericks against Lindenwood to secure their victory. Olesen has also been strong for Omaha in goal, recording a shutout against Lindenwood and allowing no goals in a 0-0 tie against Missouri. Behrens also helped her team to split points against Northern Iowa by scoring the equalizing goal.

History Against Omaha
Northern Colorado and Omaha will meet for the 14th time in program histories. In these competitions, the Bears have historically come out on top with an all-time record of 8-5 against the Mavericks. However, in their most recent matchup last season, it was Omaha that came out triumphant 1-0 in overtime on their home turf. UNC is 5-1 against Omaha in Greeley, 3-3 in Omaha, and 0-1 on neutral turf. This year's matchup gives Northern Colorado ample opportunity to redeem themselves under the Jackson Stadium lights.

Head Coach Mike Regan and his North Dakota State Bison come to Greeley with an overall record of 2-0-2, identical to the Bears. This includes back-to-back ties against Tarleton State and Southern and wins against Utah Tech and Chicago State. However, they will also face the Wyoming Cowgirls on Friday before heading south to Greeley on Sunday.

NDSU's roster includes multiple players to watch in the competition. One of these is Paige Goaley who scored the team's lone goal in a 1-1 tie against Tarleton State and recorded another goal in a win over Utah Tech. Goalkeeper Abby Wilkinson has been solid for the Bison this season helping them earn a scoreless tie against Southern and recording a shutout versus Utah Tech. Olivia Watson, Kelsey Kallio, Olivia Lovick, Jess Hanley, and Loretta Wacek have also all scored goals for NDSU in their wins this season as well.

Historically, the Bears lead the Bison with an all-time record of 9-5. UNC is 5-2 at home, 4-1 in Fargo, and 0-2 on neutral turf when playing NDSU. In the two teams' last competition in 2018, Northern Colorado got the best of North Dakota State on their home field to bring a 1-0 win home to Greeley. The Bears will now defend their winning record with a home field advantage come Sunday.
