Early Strike Propels Bears Past Mavs

GREELEY, Colo.—Less than three minutes into the match, sophomore Lauren Woodhull found the back of the net to extend Northern Colorado's undefeated start to the season with a 1-0 win over the University of Nebraska Omaha.
With the win, Northern Colorado improved to 3-0-2 on the season while Omaha fell to 1-2-2.
Moments after the opening whistle, junior Melina Faris initiated the scoring strike with a steal in UNO's defensive third. After a quick turn and a pass towards the center of the pitch, Woodhull collected the pass and immediately slotted a low strike to the left-hand side of the Maverick keeper for her team-leading third goal of the season.
UNO went on to outshoot the Bears 8-to-5 in the opening half but failed to send a threat past UNC netminder Kaya Lindberg. Lindberg tallied three saves in the contest.
GAME NOTES
The Bears will return to action on Sept. 4 when they host North Dakota State University. Opening kick at Jackson Stadium is set for 12 p.m. As always, admission is free to all regular-season UNC women's soccer matches.
