Bears End Nine-Year Skid To The Rams

GREELEY, Colo. – The Northern Colorado women's soccer team came out on top against their in-state rivals the Colorado State Rams, downing the Rams 2-1 on Sunday night.
Northern Colorado improves to 1-1 on the season as the Rams will fall to 1-2 on the season.
"Super excited for the players," head coach Tim Barrera said. "They worked really hard. We talked about intensity. We know CSU is a team that's going to really play hard and put us under a lot of pressure. We worked on that. I thought they were prepared for that and really stepped up and executed."
The Bears and Rams would start off to a slow start with both teams showing physicality early, with Isabella Martinez receiving a yellow card for the Bears and Hanna Mckay for the Rams also receiving one later in the game.
UNC would strike first with the freshman Maddie Morie scoring her first career goal for the Bears off a blocked shot from Lexi Tuite to put the Bears on top 1-0.
The lead wouldn't last for long after CSU's Kaja Dionne tied the match with a goal of her own.
UNC would have opportunities to put their teams back on top with shots coming from Lexi Tuite and Ava Marshall missing the back of the net.
But in the 82nd minute of the game the freshman Mori would find the net for the second time securing the win for the Bears to end their nine-year drought against their in-state rivals.
Maddie Mori did not start for the Bears but with both goals to give UNC its first win of the season.
"Today we brought Maddie off the bench, and I think that may be a little bit easier for her," Barrera commented. "But you know, just just in the right place at the right time, and really really performed."

The Bears will face South Dakota Thursday August 27 at Jackson Stadium where the Bears will look to continue this winning streak at home and improve their record to 2-1 on the season.
