GREELEY, Colo. – The Northern Colorado women's soccer team fell to Wyoming 3-0 at Jackson Stadium on Sunday night in the Front Range Derby.

Northern Colorado start the season off 0-1 and the Wyoming Cowgirls will improve to 2-0.

The Bears and Cowgirls would start off in a defensive battle against each other with both teams figuring each other out early. About twenty-two minutes in the Cowgirls would try a couple of shots early. But the Bears would also show their offensive determination by responding with other shot opportunities as well. With Lexi Tuite, Abby Bush and Maddie Mori all looking to get the Bears on top. But the chess match would be short lived with Reese Gould scoring the first goal of the game off the assist from Alisa Bunn.

UNC would continue to fight back into the game with physicality playing a big part in the game with both teams having a significant amount of fouls. Two yellow cards would be issued to the Cowgirls Kiley Ballak and Raegan Richardson.

Northern Colorado head coach Tim Barrera expressed his positivity from the Bears in the match stating, "I thought there were some really good things out there and a lot of good looks from a lot of players and that will help us moving forward."

The game would finish 3-0 With the Cowgirls retaining the Front Range Derby here in Greeley. Barrera expressed his thoughts on Maddie Mori's play in this game stating, "Maddie was in good positions a couple of different times. As a freshman, the fact she is out there working with the rest of the players, creating chances, I think it bodes well for us."

UP NEXT

The Bears will face Colorado State next Sunday, August 23rd at Jackson Stadium where they will continue their opening home stand. UNC will look for redemption against the Rams after losing 1-0 in 2025.
