Bears Set to Host Colorado State

GREELEY, Colo. – Northern Colorado women's soccer continues its homestand Sunday, Aug. 23, when the Bears welcome Colorado State to Jackson Stadium. Kickoff is scheduled for 6 p.m. MT.
The Bears enter the matchup looking to bounce back after opening the regular season against Wyoming. Sunday's contest will be UNC's second completed regular-season match after its scheduled opener against Denver was suspended due to weather and field conditions.
LAST TIME OUT
Northern Colorado opened regular-season play with a 3-0 loss to Wyoming on Sunday, Aug. 16, at Jackson Stadium.
The Bears generated 10 shots and three corner kicks in the contest. Abby Bush led UNC with three shots, while Lexi Tuite and Madeline Mori each added two. Mori and Mia Norman recorded UNC's two shots on goal.
In net, Thordis Melsted played all 90 minutes and finished with four saves. Wyoming opened the scoring in the 31st minute before adding two goals in the second half.
SCOUTING COLORADO STATE
Colorado State enters Sunday's matchup with a 1-1 record through its first two regular-season matches.
The Rams opened the season with a 2-1 road loss against No. 13 Colorado before responding with a 1-0 victory over Denver in their home opener on Aug. 16.
Ava Wallhead scored the game-winning goal against Denver in the 70th minute off an assist from Mia Casey. Wallhead has scored both of Colorado State's goals through the Rams' first two regular-season matches. Colorado State is led by head coach Keeley Hagen.
SERIES HISTORY
Sunday marks the 10th all-time meeting between Northern Colorado and Colorado State.
The Bears hold a 2-5-2 record against the Rams, including a 1-2-2 mark in Greeley. The series began in 2013 with a 2-2 draw.
Colorado State has won each of the last two meetings. The Rams defeated UNC 1-0 in Fort Collins last season after earning a 3-0 victory at Jackson Stadium in 2024.
Northern Colorado's most recent win over CSU came on Aug. 24, 2017, when the Bears earned a 2-1 victory in Greeley. UNC also defeated the Rams 1-0 in Fort Collins in 2016.
LOOKING TO BREAK THROUGH
Northern Colorado will look to turn its opportunities into goals after producing 10 shots against Wyoming.
Bush led the Bears' attack with three attempts, while Tuite and Mori each finished with two. Mori registered one of UNC's two shots on goal while making her first regular-season start for the Bears.
Tuite remains a key piece of the UNC attack after scoring six goals across 19 appearances during the 2025 season.
