Bears Softball Drops Rubber Match in Portland

UNC softball fell to Portland State 4-3 in extras
PORTLAND – Northern Colorado dropped its rubber match against Portland State on Saturday 4-3 in extras.
PSU took the early lead going up 2-0 in the bottom of the first. The Bears responded in the fourth with three runs of their own.
Peyton Gales brought home the first run of the inning with a long pop up into foul territory recording a sacrifice fly that scored Katie Simonsgaard. With the table set with a runner on second and two outs, Paola Villegas hit her second home run in as many days to put the Bears up 3-2.
Villegas finished the game going 2-for-3 at the plate with two RBIs, a run scored and an additional double.
Portland State kept it a one-run game before tying it with a home run in the seventh to force extras. On their first at-bat in extras, the Vikings hit their second home run in as many innings to win the game 4-3.
What's Ahead
Northern Colorado starts a seven-game homestand on Tuesday when Colorado State comes to Gloria Rodriguez Field. The Bears and Rams' first pitch is set for 3 pm.
