Golden Pitches Gem Against Sacramento State

Meghan Golden's complete game shutout helped UNC earn the split with Sacramento State Friday
GREELEY, Colo. – A complete game shutout in game one of the doubleheader by Meghan Golden helped Northern Colorado earn the Friday split with Sacramento State.
Golden pitched a gem against the top hitting team in the Big Sky to earn the 3-0 win. The freshman pitcher her 13th complete game of the year allowing just four Hornets on base for the game while striking out seven.
She received run support in the third and fourth inning from the Bears' bats.
UNC put together a two-out rally to score in the third. Riley Plogger drove home the first run of the game with a double to center scoring Jaycie Gandert. Plogger scored herself on the next at-bat with Kaileigh Holland reaching on an error.
Northern Colorado made it 3-0 on Alyssa Wenzel's double to center. She brought home Paola Villegas who singled to reach base.
The Bears fell into a 6-0 hole before Plogger added on a three-run home run in game two to finish the day 4-for-6 with four RBIs.
UNC never said die in the game, but the early deficit was too much falling 10-7.
Villegas went 3-for-7 on the day driving home three runs, all in game two, and scoring twice.
What's Ahead
Northern Colorado and Sacramento State will face off at noon tomorrow for the rubber match.
