Erin Caviness pitched five scoreless innings in relief
GREELEY, Colo. – Erin Caviness pitched five strong innings of relief work, but it was not enough for UNC falling 4-1 to Sacramento State in the rubber match on Saturday.
The junior allowed just two hits and sat down the first 12 batters she faced. She finished the day with three strikeouts.
Sacramento State jumped out to its lead with all four runs in the second inning. A home run followed by four straight singles made it a 2-0 game. With the bases loaded and no outs, Sacramento State added on two more runs with a pair of sacrifice flies.
Northern Colorado's lone run of the game came in the bottom of the fourth. Alyssa Wenzel singled up the middle to score Paola Villegas. UNC proceeded to load the bases with two outs but was unable to score any more runs.
Lauren Strathearn led the team with a 2-for-3 day at the plate.
What's Ahead
Northern Colorado continues its seven-game homestand on Tuesday when Colorado State comes to town for a 4 pm first pitch.
