Softball Earns Sunday Split

Northern Colorado walked off against Incarnate Word Sunday
It was a rollercoaster affair against UIW a day after Meghan Golden shutdown the Cardinals bats with 15 strikeouts it was all about the offense Sunday.
UNC struck first with their first two batters reaching on Incarnate Word errors. Kaileigh Holland brought hit a sacrifice fly to right scoring Jaycie Gandert. It wouldn't be the last RBI of the game for Holland.
Incarnate Word scored a run in the second and fourth to go up 2-1 when the roller coaster took off. Northern Colorado scored five runs in the bottom of the fourth. UNC loaded the bases to start the inning with Paola Villegas scoring the game-tying run on another Incarnate Word error.
The Bears produced three singles in four at-bats after that from Alexsi Barashkoff, Jaycie Gandert and Holland to cap off the scoring. Barashkoff's single scored a pair.
The Cardinals reclaimed the lead with a six-run sixth to go up 9-6.
Once again UNC loaded the bases in the bottom of the sixth with three straight singles from the top of the order. Gandert scored on a wild pitch to make it 9-7.
Down to their final three outs, Northern Colorado scored three runs in the bottom of the seventh to win the game.
Katie Simonsgaard had an infield single to lead off the inning and scored the first run. Alyssa Wenzel was the second run to score on a Riley Plogger single.
With two on and two outs, Holland delivered the game-winning hit. She took the 1-1 pitch through the left side to give the Bears the win.
Holland finished the game with three RBIs and three hits. The top of the Bears order in Holland, Plogger and Gandert combined to go 7-for-13 at the plate in the game with five RBIs, three runs scored and a well.
In the weekend capper, UNC's bats struggled to find the same mojo they had earlier in the day falling to Texas Tech 5-1 with just four hits.
What's Ahead
Northern Colorado returns home to host Colorado School of Mines for a doubleheader at Gloria Rodriguez Field starting at 3 pm.
