Bats catch fire for UNC's first win of 2022

UNC softball picked up its first win of the 2022 season over Bradley Saturday
PHOENIX – Northern Colorado softball took the momentum they gained at the end of game one of two against Bradley on Saturday and turned it into a 10-1 win in game two. Kaileigh Holland's three-run home run in the bottom of the seventh of game one gave the Bears confidence and momentum going into game two.
The Bears earned their first win of the season by run ruling the Braves in five.
Northern Colorado finished the game with 13 hits and five players had multi-hit games. Four Bears also drove in a pair of runs. Freshman Peyton Gale went 3-for-3 on the day with two RBIs for the best performance.
UNC struck first with two runs in the second. Gale scored the first run when she touched home on Jayden Mercado's single to left center.
Another freshman, Jenna Kobernick extended UNC's lead in the third inning with a single up the middle scoring Jaycie Gandert.
Up 4-1 entering the bottom of the fourth, Northern Colorado's bats became hot. The Bears scored on four straight at-bats including a Kobernick double to left center. The team batted around the order as they scored six runs on six hits and one error.
Meanwhile in the circle, freshman and Arizona native Meghan Golden picked up her first career win. She earned the win while striking out five Braves and allowing just five hits and one run.
Game Notes
- Peyton Gale, Jenna Kobernick, Alyssa Wenzel, Jayden Mercado and Lauren Strathearn each had multi-hit games.
- Kobernick, Gale, Mercado and Strathern all drove home two runs as well.
- Gale and Wenzel each scored twice.

Northern Colorado closes out its weekend at the GCU Kickoff Classic by facing Fordham Sunday at 9 am.
