New Cast of Bears Debut on 2022 Opening Day

UNC softball falls to Kansas and Grand Canyon on Opening Day 2022
PHOENIX – Northern Colorado opened the 2022 season on Friday facing Kansas and Grand Canyon in the GCU Kickoff classic. A new season brought plenty of new faces to the field for UNC as had 10 players make their Blue & Gold debut.
The Bears dropped their two games 7-1 to Kansas and 8-0 to Grand Canyon on the first day of action.
Graduate transfer Kaileigh Holland had the best day of the newcomers hitting .500 over the two games and driving home the team's lone run of the day. The GCU transfer looked comfortable in her old stomping grounds going 2-for-4 with a pair of singles.
Freshman Jaycie Gandert recorded her first career hit going 2-for-3 against KU including a triple.
Alison Steinker had Northern Colorado's other extra base hit on the day.
What's Ahead
It will be an early morning for UNC starting at 8 am against Bradley on Saturday. The Bears and Braves then match up again at 1 pm MT.
