Softball ready for Big Sky Tournament

UNC starts the Big Sky Tournament on Thursday
GREELEY, Colo. – It's championship week for the UNC softball team as they compete in the six-team Big Sky Tournament on Thursday. The Bears face Portland State in game one at 9:30 am.
Leading Off
• Northern Colorado enters the Big Sky Tournament as the No. 4 seed. It is the highest seed UNC has been since the Big Sky went to the six team tournament in 2016.
• The Bears are 5-5 in Big Sky Tournament play. It is the third straight championship the program has qualified for.
• Six Bears earned All-Big Sky honors in Mady Young (1st team), Erin Caviness (1st team), Alyssa Wenzel (2nd team), Natalie Joyner (2nd team), Dani Young (2nd team) and Emma Brockmann (honorable mention).
• Emma Brockmann was on fire this past weekend. She hit .750 going 6-for-8 with five of the six hits going for extra bases. Brockmann hit a home run in each game. She drove in a team-leading seven runs.
• Paola Villegas had a strong final weekend of the regular season hitting .429 with a pair of doubles.
• Weber State is the defending champion and enters as the top seed while Southern Utah is the second seed followed by Sacramento State, UNC, Portland State and Montana, respectively.
• If the Bears win game 1 on Thursday they will play again at 2:30 pm against Weber State.
History in Big Sky Tournament
Northern Colorado is making its fourth appearance in the Big Sky Tournament and third straight. UNC has relished the underdog roll the past two tournaments advancing to the championship game in 2018 and 2019.
Overall UNC is 5-5 in the double elimination tournament.

The winner of the Big Sky Tournament earns the conference's automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament.
