Softball welcomes Montana to Gloria Rodriguez Field

UNC softball hosts its second straight BIg Sky opponent
GREELEY, Colo. – Fresh off a series win against Portland State last weekend at Gloria Rodriguez Field, Northern Colorado softball closes out its six-game homestand by hosting Montana on Friday and Saturday. Friday features a doubleheader starting at 1 pm and the series final starts at noon on Saturday.
Leading Off
• Northern Colorado picked up the series win going 2-1 against Portland State last week. The Bears swept Friday's doubleheader to secure the series win.
• This weekend UNC concludes its six-game homestand by hosting Montana

• The series against UM marks the mid-way point of the Big Sky season for the team. UNC and the rest of the Big Sky schools play an 18-game Big Sky schedule with an even split of three home series and three road series.
• The Bears will host Portland State, Montana and Southern Utah while traveling to Sacramento State, Weber State and Idaho State.
• Dani Young had herself a weekend going 8-10 at the plate with six runs scored and five RBI. Of her eight hits, five were for extra bases including a grand slam as one of her two home runs.
• Young's performance earned her Big Sky Player of the Week honors.
• Natalie Joyner came up with clutch hits all weekend long driving in a team-leading six runs on the weekend. She scored for times herself hitting .600.
• Mady Young continues to be on a tear in the batter's box hitting .600 for the weekend with three RBI and three runs scored.
• Erin Caviness was busy in the circle this weekend pitching 11.2 innings going 1-0 and grabbing a save with a 3.60 ERA. She had a complete game to start the weekend in a 6-3 win for the Bears. Caviness then came in and shut the door for the final two outs of game two to secure the doubleheader sweep.
• Montana has played the same teams as UNC in Big Sky play so far. They swept Portland State in Portland and were swept by Sacramento State in Missoula.
• UM leads the all-time series 11-5.
Scouting Montana
Montana comes to Greeley after dropping all three of its games against Sacramento State, two of the three by one run. The Griz are 3-3 in Big Sky play and 9-21 overall.
UM's bats are hard to get out with six players batting over .300. Anna Toon leads the team with a .364 batting average and helps set the table for masher Maygen McGrath. McGrath has a team-leading eight home runs and 27 RBI.
Opponents have been able to score against UM with a 6.61 ERA. Main starter Tristin Achenbach is 6-10 with a 4.38 ERA. She leads the conference with 108 strike outs.
What's Ahead
Northern Colorado returns to the road to face Weber State April 16-17. The Bears and Wildcats faced each other one in non-conference play with WSU winning 9-4.
