Softball hosts Southern Utah for Senior Weekend

UNC closes out its home portion of the softball schedule April 30 and May 1
GREELEY, Colo. – It's been a few weeks since Northern Colorado softball has played at Gloria Rodriguez Field, but they return for one final series this weekend when Southern Utah comes to town.
Leading Off
• Northern Colorado will have been off for almost two weeks when they take the field on Friday last playing on April 17.
• This weekend's series mark the final three games of the year at Glorida Rodriguez Field.
• All three games can be seen on WatchBigSky.com.
• UNC and the rest of the Big Sky schools play an 18-game Big Sky schedule with an even split of three home series and three road series.
• The Bears will host Portland State, Montana and Southern Utah while traveling to Sacramento State, Weber State and Idaho State.
• After Saturday's game Northern Colorado will honor its five graduates Mady Young, Maddee Blood-Smyth, Natalie Joyner, Emma Brockmann and Maggie Thurston.
• Mady Young ranks in the top 10 in the Big Sky in batting average (.375), slugging percentage (.667), on-base percentage (.430), runs scored (23), hits (36), doubles (10) and triples (3).
• Southern Utah started the Big Sky season hot, but cooled off recently losing three of their past four games. SUU hosted Weber State lat weekend dropping the series 2-1.
• SUU leads the all-time series 24-11. Five of the Bears 11 wins over the T-Birds have come in Greeley.
Scouting SUU
Southern Utah started the Big Sky season hot, but has cooled off as of late dropping three of their last four games. The Thunderbirds enter this weekend second in the conference with an 8-4 record.
SUU has some power in their lineup leading the Big Sky with 51 on the year. Their 1.31 home runs per game ranks 22nd in the nation. Three players have double digit home runs this year led by Brooke Brown's 13. Josey White and Kalena Shepherd lead the team with a .400 batting average.
In the circle, Southern Utah has struggled at times this year with a 6.73 ERA to rank sixth in the Big Sky.
