Softball opens six-game homestand against Portland State

UNC softball returns home to face Portland State for three games
GREELEY, Colo. – It's been almost a month, but Northern Colorado softball returns to Gloria Rodriguez Field this weekend to host the Portland State Vikings. It starts a six-game homestand for the Bears.
Leading Off
• Northern Colorado battled hard with Sacramento State dropping a pair of one-run games in the opening weekend of Big Sky play.
• This weekend's series marks the start of a six-game homestand for the Bears.

• UNC will play an 18-game Big Sky schedule with an even split of three home series and three road series. The Bears will host Portland State, Montana and Southern Utah while traveling to Sacramento State, Weber State and Idaho State.
• Erin Caviness had a strong weekend pitching two complete games with a 3.50 ERA. She walked just one over the 12 innings pitched and struck out three.
• Maddee Blood-Smyth hit two home runs in two games going 4-for-6 over the two games she played. She led the team on the weekend with three RBI and tied for the lead with two runs scored
• Paola Villegas and Alyssa Wenzel enter the weekend with a five-game hitting streak. Villegas already had a six-game hitting streak earlier this year.
• Portland State opened Big Sky play hosting Montana last weekend, dropping all three games.
• PSU has won the last two games against UNC and leads the series overall 11-21. The teams are an even 7-7 when playing in Greeley.
