Maddee Blood-Smyth hit a home run for the second straight games
SACRAMENTO, Calif. – UNC softball concluded its Big Sky opening series on Saturday, dropping the finale 3-2.
Like both games on Friday, Northern Colorado jumped out to the lead first. The Bears broke the scoreless time in the second when Maddee Blood-Smyth sent her second ball in as many days over the fence. Her two-run shot brought home Anna Martinez.
Sacramento State chipped away at the UNC lead with a run in the bottom half of the inning and then tied it up at two with a solo home run in the third.
Northern Colorado had a chance to extend its lead in the top half of the third when they had a pair reach with two-outs but left them stranded.
The Hornets put together one last rally in the fifth to go up 3-2 and shutdown the Northern Colorado bats the rest of the game.
Game Notes
- Maddee Blood-Smyth had her second straight multiple-hit game going 2-4 with the 2-run home run.
- Erin Caviness had another strong outing going 6.0 innings allowing three runs on eight hits and walked just one.

Northern Colorado returns home for two straight weekends starting by hosting Portland State.
