Tough loss at 7,000ft

Coming off a long and tough game against Southern Illinois University Edwardsville last week, which resulted in a tie, the Bears were eager to get back on the field for a definitive win or loss game against Wyoming.
90 minutes simply wasn't enough for these two teams to play. With a shutout from Ashley Franza in the second half while in goal, she continued to start in goal for overtime for the Bears. While the Bears dominated the first and second half of overtime, it just wasn't enough to hold off Jamie Tatum who scored an off-the-post and into the net goal for a Wyoming victory 3-2 over the Bears.
The game-
Maddie Duren and Haley O'Nan carried the team in the first half by scoring both of their first goals for the season within a minute of each other.
Both teams came out strong and played a back and forth game, switching possession quite frequently. It wasn't until Keelie Wortmann scored the first goal for Wyoming that then we saw the intensity heightened. The Bears put the pressure on and made six substitution changes in order to stir things up a bit.
Not long after, Duren set a new tone and momentum for the Bears by scoring off a free-kick that curled around the defensive wall, was bobbled by Wyoming's keeper, then landed into the back of the net. As the Bears were fired up, less than a minute later O'nan scored off a beautiful cross given by Kaitlyn Meeder to the top of the box from the sideline.
Wyoming had one shot on goal, and two corner kicks immediately following O'Nan's goal, eventually resulting in an equalizing goal from Wortmann for Wyoming, her second goal of the game.
As both teams dove into the second half, the ball was dominated evenly among the Bears and the Cowgirls. During the majority of the second 45 minutes, both teams and fans were wondering who would break this tie game. And, the answer wasn't going to be found in regulation.
What Barrera said-
Head coach Tim Barrera states, "I thought we played well, especially the second goal, it was a very good goal. There were mistakes on both sides, but overall a really good game back and forth. We had to use a lot with it being a mid-day game at 7,000ft and with a lot of games coming up it was a really good opportunity for us to really use our bench and I thought, for the most part, all of them played pretty well and we're also dealing with some injuries, so it makes it a little bit tougher. "
When asked what happened, Barrera said, "It's about finishing chances, you know we had an opportunity to win late and they made a good save….and the girl took a really great shot and finished really well, so hats off to them on that shot.
What's next? "Moving forward we don't have much time since we're going to California tomorrow and play a really good Fullerton team, and Irvine on Sunday. We have a lot of sophomores and juniors and this is a really good opportunity for us to challenge our players."
