The game slipped away from Northern Colorado in the second half
Northern Colorado women's basketball faced off against Colorado State on Friday night, dropping the game 75-58. After being tied at 29 at halftime, CSU pulled ahead in the third quarter and found the hot shooting hand in the fourth to get the win.
"I thought we had a decent first half and we could have executed a little better to get cushion," head coach Jenny Huth said. "The second half they out executed us and baited us into a lot of threes tonight. We are learning how to work the ball and get touches to different places. I think finding the reliability inside was hard for us, especially with the sagging defense. I did think we grew in different ways from the other night. We kept them off the free throw line and moved our feet better. I also thought we rebounded better tonight."
The second half was the Bears undoing, as they were outscored by CSU 46-29. In the third quarter, UNC was four-of-16 from the field and missed all four of its three-point shots.
CSU put together a 13-0 mid way through the fourth that put the Bears in a hole that they could not overcome.
UNC struggled from behind the arc, going 7-27 for a 25.9% and 35% from the field as a whole. The Rams countered to shoot 47% on the night and 55% from three-point range.
Alexis Chapman scored 23 points and was five-of-12 from three to lead the Bears. Ali Meyer had a strong night on the boards, with a game-high 15 rebounds.
Colorado St. took advantage of mistakes, converting 20 Bear turnovers into 19 points. UNC would fall to 0-2 on the season after the game.
"We are going to have to grow and get better," Huth added "I want to be able to execute finish games better in the fourth quarter. This is a young season. Most people that are competitors and care deeply are going to figure out a solution. That's our job as coaches to make our players play at their best. They have a job as players to be great teammates and get each other to give their best."
