The Bears Face No. 3 Stanford Thursday

Northern Colorado will face the Cardinals in the team's first road game of the season
Northern Colorado women's basketball will take its first road trip of the 2019-20 season this weekend. UNC will start off against the No. 3 Stanford on Thursday night in the first ever meeting between the two programs.

UNC fell to 0-2 on the season after Colorado State topped the Bears, 75-58. UNC and CSU were tied at halftime but the Rams hot shooting in the second half powered them to the win. CSU shot six-of-nine from three-point range in the second half, and 19-of-33 from the field.
The Bears showed growth in the game, though, winning the rebound margin after losing it in the season opener. UNC also nearly cut its fouls in half, committing only 13 after having 25 against the Dons. The Rams would only shoot four free-throws. San Francisco shoot 42 against the Bears. After losing the rebound battle in the opening, game UNC turned the corner with a 44-32 rebound margin against CSU. Ali Meyer recorded 15 rebounds to lead the Bears.
Alexis Chapman leads the Bears and is fourth in the Big Sky with 19.0 points per game, while shooting .406 from the field. Chapman matched her career-high with 23 points against the Rams this past Friday.
Ali Meyer had a classic game against the Rams, pulling down 15 rebounds. She is back in her old spot early in the season, leading the Big Sky with 10.5 rebounds per game and 21 total rebounds.
Bridget Hintz posted a career-high, 15 points in the team's opening game against San Francisco. Hintz was six-of-seven from the field and three-of-four from the free throw line in 27 minutes played. She also grabbed five rebounds in the game.
UNC will have their hands full with one of the top teams in the nation.
Scouting the Cardinals
Stanford enters the game as the No. 3 team in the nation in both the AP and USA Today Coaches poll, with a 2-0 record. The Cardinals are expected to be a final four team come March. Early in the season, Stanford defeated another Big Sky team, Eastern Washington, 92-27, holding the Eagles to a 14% shooting percentage. The Cardinals also defeated San Francisco, 91-71. During their exhibition schedule, Stanford lost to Team USA, 95-80.
Lexie Hull leads the Cardinals with 18.5 points per game, shooting 71% from the field. Ashten Prechtel pulls down an average of 8.5 boards a game to protect the pain. Head coach Tara VanDerveer is in her 34th season at Stanford, and 41st overall with 1069 career wins.
Northern Colorado will play Stanford at 8 p.m.(MT) Thursday night at Maples Pavilion in Stanford, Calif.
