@BearsSoftball Drops Conference Games to Sac. State

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – The Northern Colorado softball team opened up its 2015 conference season Friday on the road taking on Sacramento State. The Bears had trouble offensively in the first game, dropping it, 6-1 while their late game comeback would end short in the second game losing, 6-5.
In the first game, Sacramento held the Bears scorelesw through the first five innings while putting up two runs of their own.
UNC got things started in the fifth with Jaicy Sutak making the heads up play, scoring off a wild pitch, cutting the Hornets lead by one.
SSU continued to generate offense scoring two runs in the fifth and sixth innings while shutting out the Bears.
Northern Colorado stranded four runners on base in the final two innings, dropping the first game of the series, 6-1.
The Bears did everything in the second game to keep things close coming within one run of the home team in the top of the fourth.
Jenna Jordan looked to spark the Bears, scoring Sarah Fitzherbert on a sacrifice fly.
Sacramento State kept the pressure on, plating one run in the fourth, two in the fifth and one in the sixth holding UNC scoreless and increasing their lead 5-1.
The Bears attempted a late game comeback in the seventh with Jaicy Sutak reaching home off a double in which Erica Dick reached second on an error.
Morgan Yuhas continued the magic hitting a two out double to centerfield, scoring Mikayla Duffy and Melissa Marcovecchio, bringing the score to a 5-4 Hornets lead.
The Bears chances ended one batter later, drawing a bad straw and fouling out to the third basemen, ending the game and dropping the second game of the series, 5-4.
UNC will square off with Sacramento State again tomorrow at 12:00 p.m.
