SACRAMENTO, Calif. – The Northern Colorado softball team wrapped up its conference season opening series today taking on Sacramento State. The Bears struggled offensively against the Hornets pitching staff, dropping the game 8-0.
UNC started the first inning off strong picking up a double to right field from Erica Dick. The next two batters went down on strikes, while the third grounded out, stranding Dick on base.
The Bears tried and get on the board again in the fourth, with a lead-off single by Melissa Marcovecchio. Marcovecchio was left out to dry with the next three batters flying out.
Northern Colorado held the Hornets offense in check through the first four innings only allowing two runs, but gave up five runs in the fifth and one run in the sixth.
The Bears' road games continue on March 25 when the take on Colorado State, but will return home to open up Big Sky play on March 27 and March 28 taking on North Dakota.
