@BearsSoftball Ends Non-Conference at Nebraska-Omaha

OMAHA, Neb. – The Northern Colorado softball team wrapped up their non-conference schedule today taking on Nebraska-Omaha in a double-header. UNC dropped the first game in extra innings in 4-2 and would have a hard time generating offense in the second game losing, 8-0.
Both teams got off to a slow start in the first game with the score sitting at 0-0 through five innings.
In the top of the sixth, UNC picked up one run off a Melissa Marcovecchio homerun. It was Marcovecchio's second homerun of the season.
The Mavericks followed suit producing some offense of their own, scoring two runs in the bottom half of the frame to take a, 2-1 lead.
UNC tied things up in the seventh off a base hit by Erica Dick scoring Emily Holtz who pinch ran for Kaitlin Flynn earlier in the inning after Holtz singled to center.
Nebraska-Omaha was shut down in the seventh forcing the game into extras.
With Mikayla Duffy placed on second, Morgan Yuhas laid down a sacrifice bunt moving Duffy to third base.
UNC grounded out and struck out in the next two at bats, stranding Duffy on third.
The Bears came up with two outs in the eighth before, Campbell Ditto went yard, scoring the runner on second and winning the game, 4-2.
In the second game, UNC's offense disappeared producing just one hit in the game.
The Mavericks plated six runs through three innings and didn't look back, winning 8-0.
The Bears begin their conference season on the road this Friday, March 20 when they take on Sacrament State in a doubleheader on Friday and one game on Saturday, March 21.
