Northern Colorado Drops Series Finale in Orem, Prepares for First Home Series Hosting St. Thomas

OREM, Utah – Northern Colorado closed its series against Utah Valley with a 5–1 loss on Monday afternoon at UCCU Ballpark. The Bears collected seven hits in the contest, but a five-run fifth inning from Utah Valley proved to be the difference.
Northern Colorado starter Lucas Stone delivered a strong outing early, keeping the Wolverines off the scoreboard through four innings. Stone scattered just two hits while striking out four and allowing no walks.The Bears broke through first in the fourth inning. Zeke Minic sparked the offense with a double and later came around to score, giving Northern Colorado a 1–0 lead. The Bears finished the afternoon with seven hits, including two from Minic and two from Ethan Fillinger.
Utah Valley answered in the bottom of the fifth inning. The Wolverines strung together several hits to plate five runs and flip the momentum of the game.
Northern Colorado turned to Brady Hudson in relief, who took the loss after the fifth-inning surge. Jax Pfister and Logan Borboa followed out of the bullpen, combining to hold the Wolverines scoreless over the final 2.1 innings.
Minic led the Bears offensively with two hits and the team's lone extra-base hit, while Fillinger added two singles. Brandon Sanchez, Logan Pruski and Brett Barber each contributed a hit.
ON DECK: Northern Colorado returns home for the first time this season to host the St. Thomas Tommie's and open conference play with a three-game series at Jackson Field. The series opener and the Bears home opener is scheduled for Friday at 2:05 p.m. MDT.
