PREVIEW: Northern Colorado Baseball Opens Summit League Play at Home vs. St. Thomas

GREELEY, Colo. – Northern Colorado baseball returns home for the first time in the 2026 season to begin Summit League play, hosting the St. Thomas Tommie's for a three-game series starting Friday, March 13. First pitch is set for 2 p.m. MDT.

LAST TIMEOUT: Northern Colorado baseball went 1–4 in its series at Utah Valley, highlighted by a 14–3 victory in Saturday's doubleheader opener. The Bears exploded for 17 hits in the win, led by Logan Pruski's three hits and four RBIs, while Zeke Minic and Jaden Stone each added three hits. Utah Valley claimed the other four games, including an 11–6 opener and a 5–1 finale on Monday. Minic, Pruski and Ethan Mooser led the Bears offensively throughout the series, with Mooser's three-run home run highlighting UNC's four-run sixth inning in Sunday's game.
NOTES ABOUT THE BEARS: The offense is led by Zeke Minick (.409) and Logan Pruski (.333), with Jaden Stone (.324) and Jake Bullard (.288) adding depth through the middle of the lineup. Pruski (23 H, 12 RBI) and Stone (23 H, 15 R) have been consistent producers, while Bullard leads the team in extra-base hits with seven doubles and a .439 slugging percentage. As a team the Bears are hitting .271 with 166 hits and 29 doubles, and they have shown some patience at the plate with 72 walks and a .359 on-base percentage. Defensively the group has been fundamentally strong with a .963 fielding percentage.
SCOUTING ST. THOMAS: Through the first 15 games, St. Thomas has leaned on a balanced offense and a few consistent bats in the middle of the lineup. Tanner Recchio leads the Tommie's with a .367 average and a .449 on-base percentage, while Chris Knowles and Owen Bond are both hitting .302 and providing steady production. Adam Puder (.298) and Matthew Maulik (.295) add depth to the lineup, combining for 11 doubles and two home runs. As a team, St. Thomas is hitting .266 with 137 hits and have shown aggressiveness on the base paths with 20 stolen bases in 24 attempts. Defensively, the Tommie's hold a .968 fielding percentage, highlighted by strong play from Joe Roder at first base and Terek Verhage behind the plate.
On the mound, Brayden Olson (3.05 ERA) and Owen Marsolek (3.47 ERA) have been the Tommie's most reliable starters, combining for over 40 innings and 42 strikeouts. Max Skilbeck has also contributed with 20 strikeouts in 17.2 innings. Overall, the pitching staff has recorded 108 strikeouts but struggled with command at times, issuing 84 walks. Opponents are hitting .265 against St. Thomas.
ON DECK: After a three-game home stand, the Bears will travel to Fayetteville, Arkansas, for a two-game midweek series against the No. five-ranked Razorbacks at Baum–Walker Stadium. Northern Colorado will then head to Omaha, Nebraska, to resume conference play with a three-game series against Omaha.
