Northern Colorado Opens Pacific Series with Doubleheader Split

STOCKTON, Calif. – Northern Colorado split Saturday's doubleheader with Pacific at Bill Simoni Field, falling 4-3 in the opener before responding with a 3-1 victory in game two.
GAME ONE: Pacific 4, Northern Colorado 3
Pacific used a pair of multi-run innings to hold off Northern Colorado in the first game of the series.
The Bears struck first with two runs in the opening inning before the Tigers answered with one in the bottom half and took the lead with two runs in the third. Pacific added an insurance run in the fifth to make it 4-2.
Northern Colorado pushed a run across in the seventh but was unable to complete the comeback. The Bears finished with seven hits, including a three-hit performance from Ella Gonzales, while Katie Walling, Krista Francia and Hayden Nelson each drove in a run.
Anna Wilming took the loss in the circle after allowing four runs across six innings while striking out four.
GAME TWO: Northern Colorado 3, Pacific 1
The Bears responded in game two behind a complete-game performance from Grace Algrim.
Northern Colorado opened the scoring in the first inning and added another run in the third before extending the lead with an insurance run in the seventh. Pacific scored once in the opening inning but was held scoreless the rest of the way.
The Bears recorded nine hits in the win, with Katie Walling leading the offense with three hits while Krista Francia added two hits and an RBI.
Algrim (3-2) tossed a complete game, allowing just four hits and one unearned run while striking out five to secure the win.
Northern Colorado and Pacific conclude the series Sunday at Bill Simoni Field with first pitch scheduled for 1 p.m. MDT (12 p.m. PDT).
