UNC Track & Field Notches Wins, All-Time Marks at CU and UCCS
1/24/2026 5:28:00 PM | Men's Indoor Track & Field, Women's Indoor Track & Field
BOULDER, Colo. - The Northern Colorado track & field program split competition across two meets on Saturday, posting a full slate of finals appearances, event wins and multiple additions to the UNC all-time list, and a record breaking performance by Camaria Corder at meets hosted by the University of Colorado and the University of Colorado Colorado Springs.
At CU, the men were led by Daniel Beckford's standout showing in the 60-meter hurdles. Beckford advanced through prelims before finishing second in the final with a time of 7.96, while also adding a top-15 finish in the 200 meters. Johnny Fisher delivered another strong sprint performance, qualifying for the 60-meter final and placing fifth overall in 6.93, then adding an eighth-place finish in the 200. Northern Colorado also picked up solid depth in the 400 meters with top-10 finishes from Christopher Cheatham (49.58) and Edgar Garcia (50.06), while multiple Bears advanced to finals or posted season-best efforts across the sprint and middle-distance events. The men capped the day with competitive efforts in both 4x400-meter relay sections.
On the women's side at CU, the hurdles and middle distances highlighted the day. Donice Bruno-Ezealah, Sherika Thomas and Alexia Austin all qualified for the 60-meter hurdles final, with Austin placing third (8.70), Bruno-Ezealah fourth (8.78) and Thomas fifth (8.85). Bruno-Ezealah and Thomas both logged all-time marks for UNC in the prelims. Sabina Stroia continued her strong indoor season with a meet-winning performance in the 1000 meters, clocking 3:10.15 to move into fourth on UNC's all-time list, while Lucy Varela followed closely in second to rank seventh all-time. Stroia later doubled back in the 800 meters, part of a deep showing from the Bears across the event group.
Meanwhile at UCCS, Northern Colorado collected event wins and major jumps in the program record book. On the men's side, Tyler Rogers placed second in the high jump with a clearance of 6-10.5, moving into No. 3 on UNC's all-time list. The women delivered a dominant performance in the jumps, led by Camaria Corder, who won the triple jump and broke the UNC program record with a leap of 13.01m and finished second in the long jump with a leap of 19-5.75 to move to No. 3 on the all-time list. Kiana Van Haaren won both the 60-meter prelims and the long jump. Her long jump mark of 20-3.5 ranks No. 2 all-time in program history. April Necaise added a win in the high jump with a clearance of 5-5.5.
UP NEXT: Northern Colorado heads south next weekend to compete at the New Mexico Team Open, hosted by the University of New Mexico. The two-day meet will run Friday, Jan. 30, and Saturday, Jan. 31, at the Albuquerque Convention Center, with competition scheduled for all day on both dates as the Bears continue their indoor season against a strong regional field.
