Bears Come Up Short In Pitcher's Duel

Gienger Allows Only Two Runs
ST. PAUL, Minn. – Despite a strong showing on the mound by sophomore right-hander Murphy Gienger, the Northern Colorado Bears (8-19, 3-7 Summit) fell 2-0 to St. Thomas (14-10, 8-1 Summit) on Friday afternoon.
Gienger turned in a gritty complete-game performance, allowing just three hits and two earned runs over eight innings of work. He struck out four while walking only two on 90 pitches, keeping the Bears in the game throughout.
Offensively, Northern Colorado had chances early, including a leadoff single and stolen base from Ethan Mooser in the first inning. Brendan Sanchez recorded a double in the third.
The Bears had runners in scoring position multiple times but were unable to capitalize, stranding seven on base.

Northern Colorado will look to bounce back in the second game of the series tomorrow at 12 p.m. MDT.
