GREELEY, Colo. - Northern Colorado dropped game two of the series on Saturday afternoon, falling 21-10 to South Dakota State in a game that featured momentum swings early before a late surge by the Jackrabbits.

After a quiet start through the first three innings, the Bears scored in the middle frames. Trailing 1-0, UNC broke through in the fourth inning behind a big swing from Mason Griffin, who delivered a two-RBI triple to spark a three-run inning and give the Bears their first lead of the day.

Northern Colorado built on that momentum in the fifth, erupting for six runs to take a 9-3 advantage. Jaden Stone ignited the inning with an RBI triple and later scored on a passed ball, while Brandon Sanchez delivered a three-run home run to left center, putting the Bears in control. Griffin continued his strong day at the plate in the sixth, driving in another run to extend the Bears lead to 10-3.

On the mound, Jake Storey provided a solid start, going six innings while allowing three runs and striking out seven. He kept the Jackrabbits in check early and gave UNC a chance to build its lead.

The game shifted in the later innings as South Dakota State chipped away with three runs in the seventh before breaking the game open in the eighth. The Jackrabbits sent 16 batters to the plate in the inning, scoring 12 runs on hits and walks to take a commanding lead.

Mason Griffin led Northern Colorado offensively, finishing 3-for-5 with four RBIs and a double and triple. Brandon Sanchez added three hits and three RBIs, highlighted by his home run, while Jaden Stone chipped in two hits, including a triple, and scored twice.

ON DECK: Northern Colorado will look to bounce back in game three of the series as they aim to claim the series against the Jackrabbits.
