Bears Head to Minnesota for Weekend Series

UNC Faces League Leading Tommies Friday-Sunday
GREELEY, Colo. – Week four of the Summit League schedule pits Northern Colorado against St. Thomas at Kock Diamond in St. Paul, Minn., Friday-Sunday.
UNC enters the weekend in fourth place in the league, with a 3-6 mark in league play, while the Tommies lead the conference at 7-1.
The Bears suffered a three-game sweep at Omaha, tying them with the Mavericks. UNC hit .303 as a team, with James Wright, Brandon Sanchez and Craig Kenny recording five hits each. Ethan Mooser went 4-for-7 in his two appearances. Tony Castonguay supplied the power, recording four of the team's 10 doubles, while Kenny registered his first home run of the season.
St. Thomas won both games against Oral Roberts at home, with the finale postponed due to weather. The Tommies earned a doubleheader sweep of the Golden Eagles 3-2, 8-2, Friday, March 28.
UNC ranks second in the conference in offense, with a .288 batting average, while St. Thomas boasts the best at .322. Both teams registered 79 extra-base hits this season, with the Bears leading the way in doubles (61) and triples (8). St. Thomas tallied the second most in doubles (52), triples (7) and home runs (20).
The series features four of the top-10 hitters in the conference. UNC's Brett Barber sits fourth, with a .373 batting average, while Jake King holds the ninth-highest average at .345. Tanner Recchio leads the Tommies and has the second-highest average at .385, while Matthew Maulik (.356) owns the eighth-best mark and Joe Vos (.341) is tenth.

Northern Colorado earned the Summit League Kwik Star Peak Performers of the Week in three of the first five weeks of the season. Jake King claimed the first two player of the week honors, while Gienger took home pitcher of the week, after his performance against Utah Valley in the series opener. He fanned 14, matching the school record.
