DiNapoli’s Dominant Outing Leads Northern Colorado to Tournament Sweep
FORT COLLINS, Colo. – Northern Colorado wrapped up a perfect weekend at the Colorado Classic with a 5-1 victory over Texas A&M-Corpus Christi on Sunday at Ram Field. The Bears (7-10) completed the tournament sweep behind a dominant performance from senior Isabelle DiNapoli, who recorded a season-high nine strikeouts in a complete-game win.
NORTHERN COLORADO 5, TAMU-CC 1
Pitching: (W) Isabelle DiNapoli (4-2); (L) Ayala, H (1-2)
Northern Colorado jumped out to an early lead, plating three runs in the first inning. The Bears quickly loaded the bases, with Katie Walling crossing the plate on a wild pitch before two back to back RBI groundouts from Sabrina Javorsky and Krista Francia.
DiNapoli was lights out in the circle, allowing just three hits and one run while issuing three walks. The right-hander kept the Islanders' bats quiet, stranding five runners on base and commanding the strike zone throughout the game.
In the third, Amailee Morales added to the lead with solo shot to right field, giving the Bears a comfortable cushion. They tacked on an insurance run in the sixth to put the game out of reach.
The Islanders (6-14) managed their only run in the sixth inning on a solo homer from Mimi Thornton, but Northern Colorado's defense shut down any chance of a comeback.
With the win, the Bears secured a 3-0 record at the Colorado Classic are 7-10 overall.
