Late Rally Not Enough on Opening Day

Bears Look to bounce Back Tomorrow
The Bears rallied late, scoring in the fifth, sixth, seventh, and ninth innings to keep the game close. A pinch-hit solo home run by Brett Barber in the seventh provided a spark, while Kai Wagner, Carter Monda, and Jake King each contributed multi-hit performances. Monda drove in a run with a clutch two-out single, and King reached base three times, scoring twice.
Despite collecting nine hits and drawing 10 walks, Northern Colorado struggled to capitalize on scoring opportunities, leaving 13 runners on base.
On the mound, starter Murphy Gienger fought through four innings, surrendering six runs on seven hits, including three extra-base hits. He struck out one and walked three in his season debut.
The bullpen kept the game within reach, as Wilbur Berrios, Logan Moser, and Luke Guest combined for four innings of relief, allowing just one earned run on four hits. Berrios was particularly effective, tossing two scoreless innings while striking out two.
UP NEXT
The Bears return to the diamond on Saturday afternoon with a doubleheader scheduled for 12:05 p.m. at Bruce Hurst Field.
