Mpigachai Paces Field at Greeno-Dirksen Invitational

LINCOLN, Neb. – Regina Mpigachai registered her second-consecutive individual win of the 2024 season Saturday.
The Geita, Tanzania, junior, bested the field by 36 seconds, posting a time of 17:00.93 and helping Northern Colorado to a third-place finish at the Greeno-Dirksen Invitational – hosted by Nebraska – at Mahoney Golf Course.
"Regina looked phenomenal," associate head coach Stormie Sickler said. I am proud of how our women competed and I cannot emphasize how happy I am for them.
UNC posted the highest finish in program history at the meet, aided by personal bests from Claire Nowels (18:51.5), Jessica Wilson (19:41.0) and Kayla Shea (20:41.9).
Brook Elfert placed 15th, in a time of 18:41.0, while Summer Olson finished 18th, crossing the line in 18:44.2. Nowels and Julia Thigpen (18:58.0) followed suit in 19th and 20th.
Natasha Perales ran a 20:41.9 and Emily Beckner stopped the clock in a time of 22:26.3.
We had individuals step up when the team needed them. Including Claire Nowels, Jessica Wilson for the women's team and Hunter Kenney and Dylan Steele for the men's team.
Isaac Rascon led the men in a time of 26:31.9. The Bears placed 15th in the 26-team field.
"The men did a really good job working together in packs to move up throughout the race to finish 15th out of 26 teams," Stickler said.
Hunter Kenney recorded a time of 27:16.9, while Noah Osmond followed closely at 27:22.2.
Dylan Steele crossed the line at 26.27.9, followed by Kamryn Golub at 27:47.9 and Cale Schafer at 27:50.1.
Nathan Plant ran a 28:31.1, while Dylan Wilson, clocked a 29:12.1 and Ben Whitson inked a 30:13.9.
