UNC Opens NCAA Championship at Stillwater Regional

GREELEY, Colo. – After sweeping the Big Sky regular season and tournament titles, Northern Colorado (27-24) heads to Stillwater, Oklahoma for its second-consecutive appearance in the NCAA Championship.
The Bears face fifth-seeded and regional host Oklahoma State (41-16) at Cowgirl Stadium Friday at 3:30 MT. Kentucky (30-22 overall) from the Southeastern Conference and the Big Ten Tournament champions Michigan (41-16) meet in a game on of the Stillwater Regional at 1 p.m. Friday.
The four teams compete in a double-elimination format until one team advances to the Super Regionals May 23-26. The Women's College World Series begins May 30, with the best 2-of-3 championship series starting June 5.
Beth Mowins, Michele Smith and Jessica Mendoza will call every game of the Stillwater Regional on the ESPN family of networks, including ESPN+ for the Bears opener. Live stats for every game are available at NCAA.com.
UNC tossed 10 shutouts this season and struck out 2.6 batters per walk allowed, the most in the Big Sky Conference.
Erin Caviness ranked first in the Big Sky and third in the country, with nine shutouts, while her 6.5 K/BB led the conference and ranked ninth in NCAA Division I. Her 18 complete games paced the league and placed her 26th nationally. She led the league in starts (23), ERA (2.30), Hits per game (5.65), innings pitched (152.1), strikeouts (169), K/7 (7.8), wins (17), BB/7 (1.19) and walks per game (.57). Nationally, Caviness placed 26th in walks per seven, 40th in strikeouts, 45th in strikeouts per seven and 50th in wins.
Amailee Morales hit 22 doubles, the most in the Big Sky Conference and third in the country, while her .45 doubles per game is the best in the nation. Her .720 slugging percentage ranked second in the Big Sky and 69th in the nation. She drilled 13 home runs, second most in the Big Sky.
Isabelle DiNapoli finished fourth in the Big Sky with 10 complete games.
Ella Gonzales trailed only Morales in the Big Sky in doubles, with 17, ranking 28th in the country.

In just two seasons under the direction of head coach Dedeann Pendleton-Helm, UNC posted the two highest winning percentages in a season in the NCAA Division I era.
The Bears won 53 of 100 games over the last two seasons and UNC secured Pendleton-Helm's 50th win at Portland State in the Big Sky regular-season finale April 27. She achieved 50 victories in her first 95 games as head coach of the Bears, the fastest to reach the milestone in the NCAA Division I era.
