UNC Softball Falls To Montana In Big Sky Tournament

The Bears came out swinging in the bottom of the first inning, plating four runs on back-to-back home runs from Katie Walling and Ella Gonzales. Walling launched a two-run shot to left center before Gonzales followed with a two-run blast of her own to give Northern Colorado a quick 4-0 advantage.
Montana answered in the second inning with a solo homer before UNC added another run in the bottom half of the frame. Gonzales continued her strong day at the plate with an RBI single that scored Walling to push the lead to 5-1.
The Grizzlies responded with a four-run third inning to even the game at 5-5, highlighted by a two-run single down the left field line. Montana continued to build momentum in the fourth and fifth innings, scoring six unanswered runs to take an 11-5 lead.
Northern Colorado continued to battle late in the contest. KK Christie opened the seventh inning with a solo home run to left field, while Gonzales added another RBI on a groundout later in the frame. The Bears threatened with multiple runners on base, but Montana was able to record the final out and secure the win.
Walling paced the Bears at the plate, going 3-for-4 with three runs scored, a home run and two RBI. Gonzales added four RBI on a 2-for-4 day, while Christie chipped in two hits, including a solo homer.
Morales recorded two hits and moved into a tie for the program's single-season hits record, adding a double in the effort, while Nelson also contributed with a double.
Northern Colorado finished the game with 10 hits, including three home runs.
