Bears Complete Series Sweep Over Montana with Offensive Outburst

MISSOULA, Mont. – Northern Colorado defeated Montana 11-7 and completed a three-game Big Sky Conference sweep over Montana.
UNC started quickly.
In the Bears half of the first inning with the bases-load, the pitch hit Alison Steinker to push score a run and Nya Chacon sacrifice fly to center field scored Ella Gonzales and UNC led 2-0.
Chacon jumpstarted the Bears' offense in the third inning with a solo home run to right center field. The Bears then did a double steal with Quin Myers-Lenz stealing second base and Alyssa Wenzel stealing home for the run.
Jayden Gandert singled up the middle to score a run and Laura Strathearn followed that with a single that found its way up the middle to score two runs. Amailee Morales finished the Bears' part of the fourth inning with an RBI and UNC led11-3.
Katie Rehberg started the game and was credited with the no decision. Rehberg tossed two innings and scattered two hits, allowed three runs (one earned), and walked a pair of batters.
Erin Caviness entered in relief and earned the win. Caviness threw four innings and allowed six hits and four runs. Caviness also struck out three batters. Isabelle DiNapoli threw the final inning and didn't allow a hit.
As a team, the Bears pounded out 14 hits.
Strathearn batted 3-for-5 with two RBI and scored one run. Gonzales finished 3-for-4 with three RBI and scored a run.
Chacon batted 2-for-3 with two RBI and scored a pair of runs. Sabrina Javorsky finished 2-for-5.
The Bears return to action this weekend with a three-game series versus Weber State at Gloria Rodriguez Field.
