UNC Crushes Montana in Big Sky Conference Doubleheader

MISSOULA, Mont. – Northern Colorado opened its Big Sky Conference series at Montana with a dominating sweep on day one. The Bears won game one 5-1 and trounced the Grizzlies 13-2 in game two.
In the opener, Montana opened a 1-0 inning lead and held the advantage until the fifth inning. Amailee Morales drilled a three-run home run to right center field and the Bears turned a 1-0 deficit into a 3-1 lead.
The home runs didn't stop there. In the sixth inning, Nya Chacon homered to right field to extend the lead to 4-1.
Sabrina Javorsky added a home run in the seventh inning with a solo home run to left center field.
Erin Caviness tossed a complete game and kept the Grizz bats off-balance. Caviness scattered two hits, allowed one run, and walked two batters while striking out seven batters.
As a team, UNC collected six hits, three of which were home runs.
In game two, the Bears jumped on the Grizz early and didn't look back.
Leading 2-1 in the top of the third inning, Chacon delivered a grand slam to right center field and the Bears opened a 6-1 lead.
The Bears scored four more runs in the fourth inning, and three in the fifth inning, and the game was called due to the mercy rule.
As a team, the Bears added 11 hits and walked seven batters.
Lauren Strathearn finished 3-for-3 and scored three runs. Chacon batted 3-for-4 with seven RBI.
Ella Gonzales batted 2-for2 with a pair of RBI.
Isabelle DiNapoli threw a complete game, allowed seven hits two runs, and one walk and struck out one.
The Bears closeout their three-game series versus Montana on Sunday at noon.
